Rain, Rubbish, and Really Good Coffee: Our Robin Hood’s Bay Beach Clean 2025

Rain, Rubbish, and Really Good Coffee: Our Robin Hood’s Bay Beach Clean 2025

Well, the sunshine packed its bags and legged it, but we weren’t put off. From 11:30 to 1:30, we headed down to Robin Hood’s Bay for a cracking beach clean – all in partnership with Surfers Against Sewage and our fab friends from Fylingdales Pre-School, raising money to support their lovely little learners.

The weather was classic British spring: grey, drizzly, and mildly offensive – but that didn’t stop the crowd. Families, friends, and even a few curious onlookers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in. In just two hours, we filled two whole bin bags with all sorts – from false nails to abandoned spades and even a pair of shoes (hopefully not recently vacated).

One young lad said, “I never see rubbish on the beach!” – then five minutes later he was up to his elbows in a rock pool pulling out sweet wrappers. It's amazing what you find when you really start looking. The kids didn’t just skim the surface either – they got deep into the rock pools, hunting for hidden litter like mini eco-warriors. It’s this kind of curiosity and care that’ll help protect the fish, the crabs, and all the other little sea creatures that call our bay home.

It’s so important to keep our beaches clean – not just for us, but for the wildlife that rely on it. Every bit of rubbish we remove makes a difference, and showing young people that they can make an impact is what it’s all about.

Me (Brooke) and Ted kept the grown-ups going with hot filter coffee from Coxswain and Boggle hole, handed out with soggy smiles and grateful hearts. The little helpers were treated to Mini Eggs as a thank-you – and maybe as a sneaky incentive to keep up the good work!

We met some lovely folks, had great chats, and even roped in a few who just came down for a wander. Massive thanks to everyone who joined in – you’re absolute stars.

Same time next year? Rain or shine, we’ll be there!

Cheers,
Brooke (and Ted)
