Apple and Cinnamon Twist on the Aeropress: The Perfect Brew for a Stormy Day

Apple and Cinnamon Twist on the Aeropress: The Perfect Brew for a Stormy Day

With Storm Éowyn set to blow through today, it’s the perfect excuse to stay indoors, stick the kettle on, and treat yourself to something warm and comforting. This Apple and Cinnamon Aeropress Coffee is just the thing to make being stuck inside feel a bit more cosy.

It’s a simple idea, really—pop a thin slice of fresh apple on the filter of your Aeropress. As the coffee brews, the apple adds a subtle fruity sweetness, which sounds fancy, but it’s really just a nice little twist to your usual cup. If you’ve got some cinnamon knocking about, chuck in a pinch of that too. And if you want it to taste really special, I’d go for 16g of our Ness Point coffee. It’s decaf (so no caffeine jitters) and has these lovely chocolate and date flavours that work a treat with the apple and cinnamon.

The result? A smooth, comforting coffee that’s perfect for sitting by the window, watching the rain lash against the glass, and being very glad you’re not out in it. It’s not going to stop the wind howling or the bins blowing over, but at least you’ll have a cracking cup of coffee to make it all feel a bit better.

Ingredients:

  • 16g Ness Point medium-fine ground coffee (or any coffee of your choice)
  • 1 fresh apple slice (thin, round cut, enough to cover the filter)
  • 230ml water, heated to around 93°C
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional, for added spice)

Method:

  1. Set the Aeropress: Begin by setting up your Aeropress in the inverted position, with the plunger on the bottom and brew chamber on top.

  2. Add the Apple Slice: Take your thinly sliced apple and place it directly on the paper filter. This clever step not only filters the coffee but also gently infuses fruity notes.

  3. Prepare the Filter: Insert the filter cap (with the apple slice inside) onto the Aeropress and set it aside.

  4. Add the Coffee: Measure out 16g of medium-fine ground coffee. If you’re using Ness Point, you’ll love how its decaffeinated richness and hints of date and chocolate pair with the apple and cinnamon. Add the coffee to the Aeropress chamber.

  5. Sprinkle Cinnamon (Optional): For an extra layer of cozy spice, sprinkle 1/4 tsp of ground cinnamon over the coffee grounds.

  6. Pour the Water: Slowly pour 230ml of hot water (not boiling—about 93°C) into the Aeropress, ensuring all the coffee and cinnamon are saturated.

7. Stir and Steep: Stir gently and let the coffee steep for around 2 minutes, allowing the flavours to blend.

8. Press the Coffee: Attach the filter cap securely and flip the Aeropress over onto your favourite mug. Press down steadily, taking 30-45 seconds to complete.

9. Savour the Moment: Your Apple and Cinnamon Aeropress Coffee is ready! Sip it as is, or add a splash of milk or sweetener for a little extra indulgence.

As Storm Éowyn comes barging in like it owns the place, why not stick the kettle on and treat yourself to a proper brew with a twist? Whether you’re curled up with a book you’ve been "reading" for months, staring out the window pretending to enjoy the rain, or just looking for an excuse to avoid doing anything remotely productive, this apple-cinnamon Aeropress coffee is just the ticket.

Stay warm, stay dry, and remember—there’s nothing a good cup of coffee can’t fix (well, except the weather).
